Yes, I can find locally made bread and pasta, etc. but were the ingredients grown here in the mountains. I kinda doubt it. Add to that that I'm vegan so, eating strictly within a 100 mile radius means that my nutrition will suffer.

I believe that the beauty of the challenge, however, is that it raises awareness. Most people don't really think about where their food comes from. For me, it's similar to buying organic ... the options aren't always available and sometimes, even when they are, they are beyond my budget. So, like buying organic, I'll buy local when I can. But, I'll also have to expand my definition of local to accommodate a healthy diet. I suppose that if we opt for local whenever possible, it'll be like organic in another way ... demand will generate supply.

Wonderful post!

Small FootprintsAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18323775808390175925noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5640624628313762392.post-57721432437823838322009-06-25T18:44:04.792-07:002009-06-25T18:44:04.792-07:00Organic products are essentially earth-friendly, s...Organic products are essentially earth-friendly, sustainable and natural, not only in its entity but in production mode. At first, most people were wary of fish oil benefits, especially veggies. But with the addition of a flavour(mostly lemon), fish oil is gaining in popularity everywhere. Fish oil can now be taken as a regular health supplement. It acts as a wonderful drug in the field of coronary heart diseases. Blood pressure is normalized and cholesterol and triglycerides are reduced to healthy levels. Pregnant women can safely take fish oil as it increases the mental growth of the unborn child. It further promotes the motor skills and coordinates the mental activity of a toddler.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03484987248373205582noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5640624628313762392.post-66848463140115359642009-06-22T16:19:58.370-07:002009-06-22T16:19:58.370-07:00I've used reusable bags at the grocery, farmer...I've used reusable bags at the grocery, farmer's market and flea market (my only shopping trips this week). Awhile back I purchased some Eco-bags ... so use those for trash.

But ... here's what I'm thinking ... what if we didn't use any plastic or eco-bag for trash ... what would we use since many places insist that garbage be "bagged" and most of us don't have a piece of property where we can bury our trash. Even Eco-bags or bio-bags end up in landfills and, because it's an anaerobic environment, they take years to biodegrade. So ... do you or any of your readers have a solution?
